I was Vicar of the University Church, Oxford, from 1986-2016 and am a Supernumerary Fellow St Hilda’s College, Oxford. I retain an ecclesiastical title as Canon Emeritus of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. I was previously Fellow and Chaplain of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge and Vicar of Southgate in North London. In 2016 I was awarded an MBE 'for services to ecclesiastical heritage'.

Now I am Publisher at Large for the ‘Circle Books’ imprint of Collective Ink Books, UK and in that role I look to publish books that think outside the box of traditional Christianity. Some weeks I conduct services and speak in rural Oxfordshire churches and even play the organ when called upon. I am preparing a short book with the working title of 'GOD - Closing the culture gap'. It will be an exploration of how the Christian Religion can speak to a Secular Age, particularly taking into account the insights of quantum science. But quite a lot of other things besides.
